"Walter Rose" was originally named "Verene" and was the daughter vessel of the "46 meter" class "Hermann Marwede". In 2012 the "Hermann Marwede" received a new daughter vessel and "Verene" was renamed to "Walter rose". From 2019 till 2024 she was being used for training crew at the Neustadt (DE) training facility.

In 2024 she was sold to DLRG Hamburg-Altona and the name was changed to "Greif 1"
